Family Day Overview
The Naperville Independent Film Festival (NIFF) kicks off the activities with the "Family Day" on September 20, 2008 from 11am – 7pm at the Grand Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Select at 180 N. Naper Boulevard in Naperville. Everyone will enter at the Grand Ballroom! Adults and youths of all ages will experience various workshops, entertainment, interactive booths, retail spaces, and special “Movie Characters” throughout the festival.

Family Day is kicked off at 11am with a “High School Musical” PEP RALLY! This is a high energy, interactive musical 20 minute extravaganza including “Troy” “Gabriella” Cheerleaders – and even the Wildcat Mascot! Everyone will learn some cheers and songs – don’t be late! It is the start of something new – the Family Day Matinee with actors featured from Naperville Central High School!

Youth Film Viewing
Come and view all the films that were received from the youth in the community! All of our aspiring filmmakers will proudly have their work shown in the film room. A critic’s panel will review all of the films and make recommendations for awards. All awards will be given at the end of the Family Day Festival at 6pm.

Panels and Workshops*
Family Day will feature workshops by professionals in the film industry. Enrollment can be done by going on line at http://naperfilmfest.org/ . Space is limited – so please sign up early!

“Acting for Youth"
Workshop Facilitator: Ray Frewen
Students will participant in theatre games and improvisation exercises during this engaging and energizing workshop. Mr. Frewen is Interim Assistant Director of The Theatre Conservatory, Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. As an award-winning actor and director, he has been an active member of Chicago's theatre community for 25 years. He appeared in the national tour of Les Miserables, and has performed at The Court Theatre, Asolo State Theatre (FL), Apple Tree Theatre, Marriott's Lincolnshire, Illinois Shakespeare Festival and the Ravinia Festival, among others. He was Artistic Director of Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace from 1998 to 2005, and presently serves on the Artistic Board for Apple Tree Theatre. He holds an M.F.A. from the Asolo Conservatory/Florida State University and a B.S. from Illinois State University.

“The Highs & Lows of Acting in the Entertainment Industry”

“Kidz ‘n Cameras: Making TV Happen”
Workshop Facilitator: Carl Schultz, Naperville Community Television - Operations Supervisor.
What does it take to make TV? Schultz will have the kids operating cameras, audio, and performing in a short video to get an overview of television production. Schultz’s technical expertise combined with his ability to connect with kids makes for a fun and engaging experience. The program is targeted for ages 10 and up only, with no more than 12 per session.

“Makeup and Costumes for Hollywood”
Workshop Facilitator: Julane Sullivan from All Dressed Up in Batavia, Illinois
Julane will explain the secrets of special effects makeup! You might walk away with your very own bloody wounds and bruises to latex noses, warts, and scars. You will be a hit at Halloween this year!!

“Stage Combat for Film”

Stunt Men Demonstrations!
Watch a stunt demo from the stunt crews that did ","The Dark Knight", "Public Enemy". Meet them afterwards to ask questions about the "behind the scenes" magic of filming. Very very exciting events – a Must SEE!

Movie Trailers & Film Memorabilia
Come and walk thru a makeup trailer and get to sit in the chairs where the stars do their makeup & hair!! The lighting trailer and light crews are on hand to show you all the equipment that they use while filming the big movies in Chicago!

“The Titantic..It’s Still Sinking!”
A SHOW! Naperville is converted to Hollywood! A movie set is recreated – an authentic “backlot set.” Be ready to step in and be a star..you never know what will happen on our movie set today! Come and watch a real film being made! There will be surprises and silliness..bring your cameras!!

HANDS-ON INTERACTIVE BOOTHS
Participants will be able to work with movie professionals to see how films come to life!
Booths include animation, sound effects, and how to beat an actual movie critic!

Special Main Stage Performances and Appearances

Movie Characters Mary Poppins to Prince Charming will greet and enchant youths of all ages!! They may even sign autographs and take pictures with guests of the festival! Actors from local theatre groups participate to bring our favorite characters to life!

Summer Place Theatre will perform musical numbers from recent and upcoming performances from this large community theatre, including “Godspell” and “Kiss Me Kate.” www.summerplacetheatre.com

North Central College Summer Musical Productions performers will delight the audience with numbers from their musical, “King & I” and “Singin’ in the Rain.” www.finearts.northcentralcollege.edu/show


Kidz Kabaret students will perform musical numbers from movie films and musicals. Kidz Kabaret is Chicago’s no-audition theatre education group located in Naperville. www.kidzkabaret.com

School of Performing Arts (SPA) show choirs and dance ensembles will perform numbers representative of the film industry. SPA offers individual and group instruction for students in dance, theatre, visual arts, and music. Located in Naperville and Plainfield. www.schoolofperformingarts.com

Naperville Park District Concert Dance Ensemble will entertain audiences with a variety of dances choreographed to movie musicals. www.napervilleparks.org

“Movie Trivia” Win your own trophy as Naperville native and movie buff Gary Hernandez hosts movie trivia contests between all of the main stage activities and entertainment.

KIDS!!!  ENTER YOUR FILMS!!!
Calling all aspiring movie directors. The Naperville Independent Film Festival is seeking film entries from young filmmakers ages 8 – 16 for the Film Festival Jr. Film Contest. Selected films (with G and PG ratings) will be shown at the Film Festival Family Day on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Holiday Inn Select, 1801 N. Naper Boulevard, Naperville.

Awards
All filmmakers who enter will receive an acknowledgement of participation. Awards will be given for “Best Film,” “Best Cinematography,” “Best Animation,” “Most Original,” and “Best Comedy.” The Film Festival Jr. Awards Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on the Film Festival Family Day.

Requirements
Films submitted for the Jr. Film Contest should be 40 minutes in length or less. To qualify, the content of the films must be "G" or "PG" rated. All entries must indicate the title, length, filmmaker name, contact information and genre (comedy, documentary, drama, animation).
There is NO FEE to enter your films and you may enter as many films as you wish. Each film must be accompanied by a completed entry form. DVDs become property of the Arthur Ray Foundation and the Naperville Independent Film Festival and will not be returned.
